Project Management

Project Management

Project management is the application of processes, techniques, skills, method tools knowledge, and experience to project activities to achieve particular objectives according to the goals and requirements of the project.

According to Wikipedia, it says “Project management is the process of leading the work of a team to achieve goals and meet success criteria at a specified time.”

Behind any successful project is a project manager. The main objective of project management is to produce a complete project which complies with the client’s or project proponent requirement.

A project manager is a person who manages, directs, and controls the making of the project. The project manager’s sole job is to remind everyone about deadlines and set up status meetings.

A Project is temporary which means it must have a beginning and an end, it is been timed. and must be completed within a time-constrained on it.

Process of project management

Project management includes five project management processes. Regardless of the methodology used, the same basic project management processes or stages of development will be used in all projects. These processes include:

  • Initiation

  • Planning

  • Execution

  • Monitoring and controlling

  • Closing

Initiation

This is always the first stage of project management processes, At this point, the project manager would determine the nature and scope of the project. If it is not performed well, it is unlikely that the project will be unsuccessful in meeting the client’s needs. At that stage, the project manager would outline all requirements, get the project breakdown, SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis, etc.

Planning

After the initiation stage, the next process is the planning stage. Here the project manager can design the prototype for the business/client requirement, estimate the time each task will be complete. At this stage, each task will be assigned to a user, etc. it will bring about rapid growth in the development of the project.

Execution

Before Executing you need to know what the planned terms are, which need to be executed. At this stage, this is where the project is been developed and executed. All teams are involved in actualizing the goal of that project. For example, the developers, designers, project managers, etc.

Monitoring and controlling

At this stage, it all about checking the progression and performance to ensuring that everything happening is working as planned in the PLANNING STAGE. Project managers will use KPIs (key performance indicators) to determine if the project is on track. At this stage, bugs is been fixed or handled. If anything goes wrong the project manager will revisit the planning stage again until this stage is successful.

Closing

This stage represents the completed project. Team members are recognized. Project managers may even organize small work events for people who participated in the project to thank them for their effort and also to evaluate what went well in the project and identify the project failures so everyone would understand lessons learned so that improvements can be made for future projects. The project manager would need to keep all documents relating to that project well.
